I wanted to share with you my experience with the IKEA DOMSJÖ double bowl sink.
When we bought our house, the company that fixes up houses and re-sells them already had a plan for our house. It was really hard to start demanding some things we wanted in the house, but if you know me you know I am very persistent.
I talked to them and we agreed for me to be able to pick some stuff, like the sink, light fixtures, paint colors, the barn door for the bedroom, etc.
My husband and I had been in Ikea a few times buying stuff for the house and we saw a couple of white sinks we liked. I did not really pay attention to them too much, but I thought they were very good looking.
After a few weeks we went to home depot to check on the farmhouse sink Matt wanted to look at and to our surprise, the lady basically gave us a look of “you cannot afford to buy one of those” – I looked at the prices and we basically ran out of the store very sad because we knew we couldn’t spend $1,000 for a sink. I started to look online and went to the IKEA website to look again to what I thought was a “droop in white sink”. To my surprise and after seeing pictures of it on other people’s blogs…It was a front apron farmhouse style sink – for only $300.
We were so excited and ran to the store to see them again. It was so pretty! We wanted to buy it right away but it was not available in the store, not in the website. Luckily, after a few days only ONE sink showed up available at the store; I went before they were even open and got it! Yay!
Now, let me tell you about the sink. It is a ceramic 37” wide double bowl sink. It will fit in any 36″ wide cabinet frame. You will need to do some adjustments, but I am telling you, it will fit!
You can look at this tutorial. It shows how to adjust the cabinet to fit the sink.
We are loving the sink so far. If you ever scratch it with sharp knives, just get some Bar Keeper’s Friend and buff it off. It will be back to normal in a few seconds. We don’t really leave tomato sauce sitting in the sink for a long time, so I cannot tell if it would get stained – maybe.
All in all it is a very affordable and stylish sink. They also have a smaller size, of only 24” wide. It would be perfect for apartments or for any small kitchen.
If you have any experience with this sink, or have any questions, feel free to leave your comments.
